Manager Selection

We are very selective by focusing on depth over breadth with respect to manager selection.  This focused approach has delivered outstanding risk adjusted returns to clients

We provide manager selection services across a range of asset classes, with dedicated staff for each sector.  We use a global manager database provided by a third party and supplement this with other sources of prospective manager identification.  We focus on prospective managers whose attributes are likely to be of interest to our clients’ needs which allows us to allocate valuable time with these managers.

We hold regular meetings with our managers, including incumbent and reserve bench managers (those that are our preferred backup managers within sector and style).  We undertake considerable work with incumbent and reserve bench managers to confirm that their inclusion in portfolios remains appropriate.

Our value-add from manager selection can be demonstrated through the medium-term performance of our clients’ ‘single sector’ options.  In particular, the Australian Shares and International Shares options, which utilise active management, have delivered top quartile outcomes in the SuperRatings survey over the last five years.

In addition to our value-add from capital markets and manager research, we highlight that our bespoke client model does not stop at manager selection.  For example, we also assist our clients with implementation by negotiating and drafting Investment Management Agreements, as well as negotiating fees on behalf of our clients.  We also closely monitor the transition management process to ensure that clients do not suffer from any implementation leakage, or are exposed to any unintended risks throughout the process.
