Whitehelm is pleased to announce that the sustainability efforts of investee company Vopak Terminal Eemshaven have been recognized at the annual Global Tank Storage Awards with the terminal being awarded winner of the Biggest Commitment to Environmental Protection.
The sustainability initiatives at Vopak Terminal Eemshaven are strongly focussed on reducing the environmental impact of its operations and to promote initiatives that support developing infrastructure solutions for a low-carbon energy future.
In February this year, Whitehelm Capital, Groningen Seaports and Vopak announced their intention to jointly invest in a 27 MW solar park that will be built on vacant land on the terminal’s premises. In addition to using its own electricity from the solar-field, Vopak Terminal Eemshaven has taken further measures to transition its energy consumption to more sustainable models. These initiatives include converting on-site terminal lighting to LED-alternatives and exploring the use of renewable bio-fuels for the provision of back-up energy.

Vopak Terminal Eemshaven is the largest purpose build storage terminal in the Netherlands exclusively serving the market for storing national strategic petroleum stocks. It comprises 11 storage tanks with a combined capacity of 680,000cbm used to store diesel and gasoline.
Vopak Terminal Eemshaven is a joint venture between funds managed by Whitehelm Capital and Royal Vopak.
